Library Redesign

The redesign of the library is a multi-step and multi-faceted process.   The first step was to analyze the collection both print and non-print.   The print collection at the start of the 2010-2011 school year was at approximately 30,000 volumes with an average of 1983.   Weeding was important to bring up the average age but also to make room for the other design options that I wanted to include in the library.  At the same time I needed to survey the teachers to see if they felt the same way about the space as I did.

Social Studies and LAL are two subjects that lend themselves easily to the resources in the library.  Five English teachers and one social studies teacher responded to the survey.  Science and math lend themselves less easily yet responded the most with 7 and 4 responses respectively.  Overwhelming, teachers commented on the need for comfortable meeting/reading area.  Others responded on conditions that are beyond my control such as more computers and more space.

Next, I took these needs to Mrs. Nazath's CAD class those students created a CAD design of the library at present and their suggestions on possible changes.  The before and after designs can be found on the library recommendations page.
