Advanced Field Experience Goals and Objectives:

1.      Description:  Describe the capstone project (in 3-5 sentences) that will form the focus of your field experience.

 

The theme of my capstone project is Partnering with Teachers and Students.  All activities that will be part of this project will revolve around bringing more students into the library for both academic and free choice activities.  It will also introduce teachers to Web 2.0 technologies that will assist in student learning.

 

2.      Goals:  How will this activity impact on the media program in the school? 

a.      The goal of the capstone project is to increase the usage of the library and its resources by teachers and students for curriculum related activities and for free choice activities.

b.      To make the library more “user-friendly” by creating small group instruction areas and reading areas.

 

3.      Objectives: Identify specific skills or concepts that students, staff and, you will learn. 

a.      Faculty will learn how to incorporate and utilize the use databases and e-books as legitimate research resources for their classroom and professional development.

b.      Faculty will learn Web 2.0 technologies that will engage students and increase student learning.

c.      Change students’ perception of the library from a books only resource to a media center that can be used for both academic and free-choice pursuits.

 

4.      Project Description: List specific activities that you will complete.

a.      The current book collection is 30,000 books with an average age of 1983.  I will weed the collection to bring it to at least an average age of 1990 (21 years old)

b.      I will meet with Mrs. Morrison’s design class and to create and implement a design that will make better use of the library space.  Faculty and students will be surveyed to incorporate their wants and needs.

c.      I will in-service teachers during curriculum meetings on databases, e-books and Web 2.0 Technology Tools.

d.      I will create a faculty newsletter to be sent bi-weekly informing teachers regarding websites and resources that will aid in the delivery of curriculum.

5.       Include any additional projects you expect to complete during the semester.

a.      The class of 2010 gave the library $2,000.  The money will be used to implement some of the recommendations of the design class.

b.      Book Trailers (much like a movie trailer) will run on the television in the library.
